Tufts Health Plan Foundation

The Future Philanthropists Initiative is a Program of the Tufts Health Plan Foundation (THPF).  We worked with selected schools to set up a multicultural initiative at the Tufts office in the Watertown area.   Students in 2011 were recruited from 4 schools, including Cristo Rey, Gann Academy, Lexington Christian Academy, and Watertown High School.

The students learn about nonprofit management, philanthropy, and community needs.  They conduct site visits and hear presentations from local nonprofits, and collectively work together to decide where and how to distribute grant funding to local 501(c)(3) organizations.  The students then work together to distribute $20,000 to organizations that support healthy aging initiatives.
