Highland Street Youth Philanthropy Initiative
The trustees of the Highland Street Foundation wanted to find a way to teach the next generation about effective philanthropy. So, in 2009, The Highland Street Foundation launched a program called the Highland Street Youth Philanthropy Initiative. This initiative is managed by Future Philanthropists, who works with teachers and administrators to set up programs in middle, high school, and colleges all over Massachusetts. The students in the program are learning about nonprofit management, philanthropy, and community needs. The students conduct site visits to local nonprofits, and then collectively work together to decide where to distribute grant funding. We are conducting 18 programs for the 2012-2013 school year.
